BRC Standard
The BRC standard, or British Retail Consortium, is a widely recognized food safety standard used in the food and beverage industry. It was developed by the British Retail Consortium, an organization representing retailers in the United Kingdom, with the aim of establishing a set of requirements and guidelines to ensure food safety and quality in the supply chain.
The BRC standard is used to assess and certify the safety and quality of food products and has become a globally accepted standard in the industry. Its main focus is to ensure that food products are safe for human consumption and meet established quality standards. This involves the implementation of good manufacturing practices, quality control, supplier management and traceability, among other important aspects.
BRC standard by sector
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has developed a number of specific standards for different sectors of the food and non-food industry. Each of these standards is designed to address the particular requirements and challenges of a specific sector. Here are some of the most common BRC standards by sector:
BRC Food Safety Standard: This is one of the most well-known and widely used BRC standards in the food industry in general. It is designed for food manufacturers and covers a wide range of food products. It focuses on aspects such as supplier management, good manufacturing practices, traceability, allergen management and other food safety requirements.
BRC Packaging: This is aimed at manufacturers of packaging and packaging materials used in the food industry. It addresses issues such as packaging hygiene, safety of materials used and traceability.
BRC Storage and Distribution: Applies to companies that store and distribute food and non-food products. It focuses on cold chain management, safety of stored and transported products, and traceability.
